***Don't Forget the FAFSA opened on October 1. Some schools have Priority Financial Aid deadlines of Dec. 1, be sure to be aware of your school's priority deadline.
If you’d like FREE help doing your 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for college, please remember that ICAN is available to help you. Mary Joan Dougherty is currently our NW Iowa Advisor, and she is available to help you virtually, through her Zoom Account. You would need access to a laptop or desktop computer – Chrome or Firefox as a browser – and a good Internet signal. Appointments are available Monday-Friday, and her home office is open for virtual appointments from 8:00-4:30 (3:30 would be the latest appointment). The 2021-22 FAFSA opens Thursday, October 1. You should do the FAFSA between Oct 1 and the earliest priority date for the colleges your student will list on the FAFSA and to which they will apply.
If you would like to take advantage of this free service, you can call her directly at 515-402-4211 or schedule your own appointment at https://www.schedulicity.com/scheduling/ICARUB. If you can’t reach Mary Joan or can’t schedule online yourself, you can also call the ICAN general line: 877-272-4692.
You will need to make sure to create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) for the student and for one parent ahead of the appointment at: https://fsaid.ed.gov/. Be sure to write down the username, password, and email for EACH account and have them ready for the appointment.
